The Forestry Commission have issued Shadwell Estate with a Plant Health Notice for the containment and destruction of a number of roadside Spruce trees infected or affected by the Eight-toothed spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) on the Kilverstone to Brettenham Road.
The Forestry Commission is the leading UK plant health authority responsible for the Ips typographus eradication programme, a regulated pest of Picea (spruce) species. Shadwell Estate intend to carry out the removal of these spruce trees considered to be affected material within the Statutory Treatment Area specified by the Forestry Commission prior to the 4th April 2025. This will involve the felling of a large row of roadside spruce trees on both sides of the Kilverstone Road.
